Leigh-Anne and Tom are very good friends of ours and it was a given I hope for us to do their cake. They got married about 2 hours outside of Johannesburg at a lovely bush veld lodge called Umklewu. The cake consisted of a 6 inch round top tier with an orange and purple zebra print inside with white fondant outside and then 60 cupcakes also in purple and orange.
I was extremely worried about transporting the cupcakes that far and I didn’t know whether to ice them there or at home. I went for icing them at home and transporting them Ina VERY air-conditioned car and IT WORKED! They arrived perfectly in tracts.
I also made the cake stand from cake dummies and cake boards covered in ribbon and it looked great. The cake toppers were two gorgeous little owls, a bride and groom which I got made for the cake since the bride has an obsession with owls. They really added a cute touch to the cake.
My sisters friends got engaged and they are very Gothic people so she wanted to give them a Gothic engagement cake as a present. I drew inspiration from a cake I found on cakecentral.com which was a four tier wedding cake with hexagonal and round alternating tiers. Each tier had a specific design and I tried to incorporate two of those tiers being the steeples and the fence.
I made the tree, which I was quite chuffed with and I ordered the vampire couple for the top. Inside was plain chocolate with chocolate buttercream and I layered the board with. Black fondant and hand painted silver lines to mimic bricks.
Hope the happy couple enjoyed it.
This cake is so funny. I had so much fun doing this cake – i really enjoy carving cakes and using skills that I have all of a sudden developed. – Don’t ask me to carve anything else!
Patrick himself is such a joy on the Spongebob show and he just makes me laugh so I am glad I got the oppurtunity to make him myself.
This cake was for a colleague’s son’s 5th birthday. They went to adventure golf and played putt putt. He is really the sweetest little boy and has such a big heart. About 18 months ago we went with him and his family to an orphanage to go and hand out Christmas presents and he enjoyed himself so much.
I’m so privileged to make this little boy’s birthday cake.
This cake is definately the BEST cake I feel that I have ever done. I have finally figured out how to make the edges of the cake sharp using the fondant smoothers and I spent a lot of time on each tier making sure I got it right.
My favourite tier is definately the silver, it gives such a perfect look and this it would look amazing as a wedding cake. The bottom zebra tier (which i had never done before so i winged it) was chocolate with chocolate icing, the middle silver tier was a dummy and the Union Jack tier was red velvet.
I am still in love with this cake everytime I look at it and I really hope that Lyndsay had a fantastic 40th birthday
